Advance California
Loans for businesses and nonprofits in CA
Mission Driven Finance makes loans to California businesses and nonprofits that often do not fit SBA, microloan, or bank criteria. Advance CA closes that gap with flexible loans for small businesses and nonprofits headquartered or operating in California that prioritize community impact.
Who we fund
Advance California funds working capital, term loans, bridge loans, project finance, and growth capital loans for businesses and nonprofits that enhance lower middle income or underserved communities. We prioritize organizations that address at least two of three impact themes:
Ownership & leadership
Diverse ownership including women, BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and U.S. veterans.
Workforce
Creation of quality jobs and diversity in the workforce..
Products & services
Positive impact on low-to-moderate-income or historically underserved communities.
Recent deployments
In recent months, Mission Driven Finance has deployed capital through Advance California to businesses creating economic opportunity across the state, including:
-
Wellness and Equity Alliance (WEA) — A mission-driven healthcare organization that brings primary care, mental health services, and wraparound social support directly to unhoused individuals, at-risk youth, and justice-involved communities through mobile units and street-based teams. $400K loan to support working capital as WEA expands into the New Mexico market.
-
Urban Remedy — California-based producer of organic, ready-to-eat meals with over $49 million in annual revenue. $1M working capital loan, co-funded with MDF Capital Partners, to support continued growth.
-
Autzu — San Francisco-based mobility technology company that lets Uber-vetted drivers rent electric vehicles by the hour, giving them a path to rideshare income without owning a vehicle. We provided a $3M loan to fund fleet expansion, EV charging infrastructure, and hiring, backed by an 80% state guarantee through iBank.
